Since 2004, emerge has operated a weekly multi-material collection service to 7,000 households on behalf of Trafford Council.

In the past most rubbish has simply been thrown into landfill sites.  Now, however, we have to reach new European and National government targets for recycling and recovery - and our landfill sites are nearly full!

In line with the national and local targets, Trafford is recycling as much of its household waste as possible.

What materials can you recycle?

emerge provides all residents of single-occupancy properties in the area with a black box and bags for:

• Paper
• Glass
• Cans
• Other paper and light card packaging
• Plastic bottles
• Textiles and shoes
• Household batteries

The emerge domestic recycling service is a ‘source-separated’ service.

emerge supports the Campaign for Real Recycling, which highlights the advantages of source separated recycling collections compared to commingled collections.

A commingled service is one where everything goes in one bin and is separated back at a Materials Recycling Facility (MRF)

Community Recycling Champions

We are particularly looking for residents of Old Trafford and Gorse Hill to become emerge Community Recycling Champions in the local community.
