How Can I Volunteer?

Do you want to volunteer and help promote recycling to your neighbours and the wider community?

Back in 1996 emerge was created by volunteers, and for the last 10 years volunteers have been an integral part of our ongoing success.

This is why we call them Champions!

One of our core goals is to offer local people work experience, to give them a chance to learn more about resource management and recycling and to be part of the solution.

Residents of Old Trafford and Gorse Hill….

We are particularly looking for residents of Old Trafford and Gorse Hill to become emerge Community Recycling Champions in the local community. With your help we will be able to raise awareness of the weekly multi-material collections emerge operates in the area.

You could also become a ‘Compost Doctor’ to help us encourage local people to compost their kitchen waste. See Compost page.

What sort of people are we looking for?

You may be retired, a student, unemployed or simply keen on waste and recycling.
We are looking for people who are reliable, self-motivated, environmentally minded and enthusiastic. If this sounds like you and you regularly have time to spare to help emerge, get in touch with us.

What would I do?

It depends on your availability and skills.
Some people provide assistance with recycling collections and material sorting at our depot, while others help in the office with administrative support, volunteer coordination, event organisation, promotion, research, and much more.

We always try to match your interests and skills with a task you will enjoy.

Whoever you are or wherever you live we would be delighted for you to help out at emerge, for as long as you can!

What are the benefits?

Volunteering allows you to increase your work experience and personal development through the training and skills enhancement emerge provides.

Many of our staff started as volunteers, so it can even lead to a job in the future.

Volunteering is rewarding; it is a chance to make a difference to the environment and the local community, as well as to meet like-minded people.

Get in touch with us by phone 0161 223 8200 or by e-mail office@emergemanchester.co.uk

I want to volunteer, what do I do next?

You will need to send us a letter or email explaining your reasons for wishing to volunteer and what skills and interests you have. We will then invite you to an informal interview and ultimately ask you to sign a volunteer agreement.

Testimonies

“I started volunteering for emerge in 2003 and I really enjoyed being a community champion. I lived in a block of flats where emerge provided recycling facilities and with help from emerge’s Volunteer Co-ordinator I was given all the support I needed to engage with residents and encourage them to recycle. It was inspiring for me because I felt that my actions were leading to tangible positive outputs.”
