Fareshare Northwest could not operate without volunteers. They are essential to the work and at the core of what it means to be a social enterprise like Emerge. We work with the community to help the community. Our volunteers come from a wide range of backgrounds, many who have had to deal with the same kind of hardships faced by the people who our community partners provide food for.
As well as getting the satisfaction of knowing they are providing a crucial service that helps hundreds of people everyday to get good quality food, our volunteers gain useful experience and training that will help them to obtain employment.
Volunteers for Emerge contribute to the work of Fareshare Northwest by
- Collecting and delivering donated food to projects for homeless people.
- Compiling schedules for the shift and direct drivers safely to delivery and collection points.
- Sorting and categorizing the donated food and ensuring that it is of an acceptable quality for redistribution.
- Assisting with the administrative tasks in the FareShare office including answering telephones and dealing with general enquiries, and data entry for collections and deliveries.
