"Grow Your Own" Sessions
EMERGE will be hosting another series of "Grow Your Own" sessions starting on Thursday 16th September. These sessions will focus on the basic knowledge that you will need in order to start growing food in your own home or local community group. Sessions will start at 6:00 at our learning garden at New Smithfield Market (directly by the front gate) and will run for approximately an hour and a half.
It may be getting colder but there is still plenty that can be done. Hardy crops can be planted which can grow until December, whilst other crops can be “overwintered” to be harvested in spring (think onions and garlic). We will look at how to keep your garden productive over the coming months.
Session 1, 16th September (6 – 7pm): The secret to a productive garden is a fertile soil. Learn all about soil and how to improve it in this session. Also covered- nutrition and getting your plants off to a healthy start.
Session 2, 23rd September (6 – 7pm): Want to grow indoors? In this session we look at container gardening and plant maintenance for healthy crops. You will be shown some tips for getting the most from your compost bin too.
Session 3, 30th September (6 -7pm): Are you using your garden effectively? This week we cover planning your garden, crop rotation, companion planting and winter planting.
These sessions are free and open to everyone, however spaces are limited. In order to reserve your space please email Nicola Milner at nicola@emergemanchester.co.uk or call 0161 223 8200.
