After six weeks of consiously slimming their bins, the 13 schools registered from across Manchester have now come to the end of the Zero Waste competition. Here are a few facts and figures for you to digest:
Before the competition, the 13 schools were creating 4.95 tonnes of waste between them each week.
By the end of Zero Waste Week, this had been reduced to 4.09 tonnes per week. This equals a weekly CO2e saving of over two tonnes.
According to WRAP, the national average waste per pupil per year is 45kg in a primary school and 22kg in a secondary. This table show how much our schools managed to reduce their waste per pupil per year:
